According to mythology, the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, immerged from the sea on the southern coast of Cyprus and lived on the island with her beloved partner Adonis rejoicing love. The island, due to its geographical situation, -joining three continents – therefore valuable as a trading or military spot, as well as its natural beauty, has been pursued, conquered and suppressed in sequence throughout the ages, so, to this day, it is still undergoing through a struggle for the achievement of a brighter day, of peace, freedom and life, prosperity and happiness. The poet, using the female factor – Aphrodite – as a main topic, skillfully depicts and describes the natural pursuit of a female –beauty – feelings of love and natural attraction, acquisition and rejection, happiness and fulfillment changed into distress, frustration and pain from denial of achievement; he therefore, relates the continuous struggle of life, the pursue of beauty and love, of survival and serenity, while he describes awe for the bright sunset and fears the dark of the night to come. In autumn he cries for winter, which will come bitter, but he is also well aware that a blooming spring will follow, and in summer the sun will shine bright and hot; that after the dark night a new dawn will bring a bright sunrise. He thus praises the power of nature. So, the beautiful tormented island of Aphrodite struggles in the rough sea, heading towards the rainbow. Is it ever going to reach it? The rainbow, itself, brings hope and promises peace!
