FLIGHT TO THE SPIRIT, THE SOUL, THE ROOTS OF CRETE . A travelogue dedicated to my ‘Flight’ in August 2018 to Crete. A flight to the heart of Crete, its soul, its spirit, the roots of the people that presents the history of the place through the ages . Since the grandeur of the Minoan civilization, until today. Venetians, Genoans, ottomans conquerors that have passed from the island, have wounded it, left their prints but prevailed the power of the soul of the Cretan people, their struggle for freedom and justice, which they finally acquired with great sacrifice and too much blood and they glorified Crete. All these are projected on every step on the island:- cities, villages, monasteries Psiloritis.- The pulse of Crete’s heart is heard through the moral principles and values of the people, of those great ones, who have acted sometime, so that today’s people enjoy freedom. However, today’s people also have the grandeur of the Cretan soul, because they honour their ancestors, they know to respect and love and appreciate their ancestors’ moral principles and values and keep them according to the present situations. The great memorial and honorary manifestation for the Doctor, the Politician, the Fighter for Life and Freedom, George Em. Andredakis, which took place at Fourfouras, his native place, on Psiloritis slopes, where the roots are deep, shows the grandeur of the soul of today’s Cretans. Within this travelogue I project the great manifestation, every step I took during the 4day flight, the feeling and the transmission upon the younger generations, my own little branches who were with me. This is my ‘thank you’ towards everyone who offered and participated for this great manifestation. A book is an evidence of memory that is not destroyed by time.
